Frosé Wine Slushies

FT Rose wine slushie recipe

Wine Slushies

I’m not usually one to fall in line immediately to food trends, and my appreciate of a frosé has certainly taken me some time. Now that I live in a HOT place, however, I have a true appreciate for wine slushies, so hear me out (and see how easy these frozen wine slushies are to make).

Frosé Wine Slushies

Frosé is the made of word for a frozen rosé wine. And while this recipe is with rosé wine, you can use this general idea for wine slushies with any varietal. Besides being a great summer wine, however, rosés also have that beautiful blush color.

Wine Slushies

If you know that you should only cook with wine you’d actually want to drink, imagine the same to be true for a wine slushie. It’s may be a tamer flavor, but the flavor is still the same. I fell in love with French rosés on our honeymoon in Southern France. And I, foolishly, thought I’d love all rosés…until I had some a few years ago that were TERRIBLE. And I don’t use that word lightly. So, I’ll reiterate – use a yummy rosé in your wine slushies!

Wine Slushies

I’m actually a huge fan of iced of frozen wine in the summer – for two reasons. First, it’s refreshingly delicious – yay! I love a chilled white or rosé wine in the summer, and ice helps keep it chilled even in the heat.

Second, and this is actually maybe more important, the ice dilutes the alcohol content and helps keeps you slightly more hydrated. This is a big one for me in the heat. It’s easy to forget how dehydrating heat can be. Mix wine with an outdoor pool party and you’ll be cute (not the good kind) before long. So the iced helps you stay a bit more hydrated while still enjoying a yummy sip.

Wine Slushies

These frose wine slushies come together quickly, but they must be made right before serving. These photos show wine slushies in stemmed wine glasses. If you’re serving these outside, I’d opt for stemless glasses. And if you’re with kids or at the pool, I do recommend plastic glasses.

  • ½ bottle rose wine chilled
  • 2 oz soda water chilled
  • ½ tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon simple syrup or to taste (optional)
  • 5 cups ice
  • Add all ingredients to a blender. Puree on high, 30 to 60 seconds, until the ice is fully blended to a slushie consistency. Serve right away.

Using a soda water with the a flavor that complements the tasting notes of the wine enhances the flavor (watermelon, strawberry, etc.). The soda water adds a slightly sparkling, fizzy quality.
You can double this recipe for a full bottle of wine – just watch for blender size. You’ll likely need to work in batches.
Make this recipe? I’d love to see how it turned out…
